Eveline Julie

My name is Eveline. My friends call me Eva. I live in the Bindago village in Senegal with my mother, father and two sisters. I had a difficult childhood. My family is poor and sometimes we had to borrow food to cover our three meals. I also lacked school supplies and money for school fees, and I had to walk several miles to go to school. Despite all of this, I still received my high school diploma, which was a big accomplishment. I also found joy in living in our beautiful village.

When I was 10 years old, I met Jesus through teaching at my church. He transformed my life and, since that moment, I have done everything I can to walk according to His Word. I am still involved at my church. I attend regularly and am responsible for the girls in our choir. I became involved with Young Life through a friend who invited me to Club and Camp. I am now a leader for the Young Life club in Bindago. My intimacy with Christ has grown through my relationship with Him and my involvement in Young Life.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders Scholarship, I am studying media and communications at Sup’imax, Higher Institute of Digital Arts and Crafts, in Dakar, Senegal. I am not able to attend school without this scholarship, and I will be the first person in my family to graduate from university. Upon graduation, I want to create my own design business, focusing on images and film. With this job, I want to fight against poverty in my village and country.
