Sergio Omende

My name is Sergio, and my friends call me Naingo. I live in Ziguinchor, Senegal, with my parents. I grew up with my parents, uncles and grandparents, all in one family home. It was difficult because my parents did not have the financial means to move away from the family home. Another challenge for me was failing my higher education exam the first time I took it. However, through prayer, God gave me the grace to overcome it and I finally passed it. I now devote myself to the Lord in prayer.

I found out about Young Life six years ago from a leader and friend. My involvement in Bible studies and Young Life camp has made a difference in my faith life. I started my personal relationship with Jesus Christ in 2021 and am now a Young Life leader. I have such a heart for evangelism and prayer and am grateful for the ways I continue to grow as a leader in my community.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying to be a building contractor at Lsaint Eloi Technology and Professional Center in Ziguinchor and Colobane, Senegal. I chose this degree because I have some knowledge of it from working with my uncle on construction sites during summer holidays, I will be the first person in my family to graduate from university. I want my degree to launch me into the professional world. My vision is to succeed in my studies, graduate and bring many people to the Lord through Young Life.
