Perla

My name is Perla, I live in Grajales, a small municipality in the city of Puebla, Mexico. Although it is considered an industrial city, I love it because it is quiet and very beautiful. I knew Jesus from a very young age, because I grew up in a Christian family, however that did not prevent me from straying from the path. It was not until I was seventeen years old when I had my first real personal encounter with God. He took me out of a horrible situation in which I was hitting rock bottom and on the verge of taking my life due to the problems, depression and anxiety. My parents and my brother took me to therapy, I changed schools, and I started going to church again. My cousin invited me to Young Life club and then to summer camp. The second time I went to camp I met Jesus again; this time He confronted me and made me reflect on things that I needed to cut out of my life because they were harmful to me and took me away from Him- alcohol, my boyfriend, bad friends, bad habits and a spiritual life without discipline. I abandoned my burdens, my sins and my life began to change.

With this scholarship I will be able to graduate as a physiotherapist at Mexican University Center of Sciences and Humanities (CMUCH). Through my studies, I hope to work in places where there is great need and where I can make a difference and always give a good testimony. I also hope I can honor God so every future patient can experience God's care and love through me. I want to be a useful tool for God to raise up more young people who serve, love and share his gospel. My prayer is always that God's dreams will be my dreams and His vision my vision, and to go where He calls me. (Translated from Spanish)
