Maxot

My name is Edel and I live in a small city called Jeremie, a relatively isolated commune on the southwest coast of Haiti. My childhood is best described as a time of struggle. My siblings and I lived on a small farm with our parents until both of my parents passed away during my teenage years. I felt discouraged; I did not trust in God. I always said, God does not know my name. As an orphan, I felt that I could not do anything.

However, the day I gave my life to Christ, I started to see life another way. I came to faith after I received a beating while at a carnival that was in town. In my desperation, I turned to Christ. Later, I was invited to Young Life by the local director who was also the pastor of my church. The training, the camps, the activities with the kids, all helped me grow in my faith and as a leader in a way I never expected.

Now a Developing Global Leader, I believe God has provided a miracle by making a way for me to pursue a college education. I am studying to become a civil engineer and attending University La Rennaissance. I want to have a better life and use my degree to help develop and improve my country. I would like to share my time to help others, especially the younger generation and orphans like me. I believe I have a testimony to share, a story to tell others about the person I was and the person I am today with Christ. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
