In a neighborhood of Cabo Hatiano called Limonade, in Haiti, where kidnappings, violence, rape, drug trafficking and poverty predominate, there is a young man named Jacques Dameus who still has hope that the situation in his country will improve. He wants to be part of it! Jacques lives with his parents in a small two-room house, with little access to public water and no access to electricity.

At the age of thirteen, Jacques was seriously ill for several months. One night in the hospital, an old man came up to him and touched him saying, "You don't have to be afraid. I am with you. Since then, I have been healed. From that night, I have chosen to walk with Jesus.” Jacques now has a close relationship with Jesus; spending time in prayer daily, reading and meditating on His Word, serving as a volunteer Young Life leader in his neighborhood, and growing spiritually so he can help the young people he is discipling.

As part of the Developing Global Leaders program, Jacques is pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Through DGL, Jacques hopes to one day have a job in order to earn money to start his own construction company. "This degree will influence my life in several ways: I will be able to help my family and do things that people will always remember. We don't have roads here, so the traffic in Haiti is total chaos. I want to help my country; I would like to help build and rebuild the roads in Haiti."
