Meron

Meron is a teachable and resilient young woman from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She was orphaned at age five and taken in by her aunt and raised alongside her cousins. Her aunt made and sold injera, an Ethiopian flatbread and staple food in Ethiopian culture to make ends meet. They were often faced with the reality of insufficient resources.

Meron met a friend who invited her to church where over time she was drawn to the love of Jesus and eventually made a decision to commit her life to Him. Raised in an orthodox home, Meron faced conflict with her aunt over her decision for Christ. However, Meron was able to continue growing in her faith as she attended the Young Life club near school. As she grew in her understanding of Jesus, Meron learned what it was to be a daughter again and how to receive God’s love as the love of a father.

Now a Developing Global Leader, Meron views this opportunity to earn a college degree as one that will change every dimension of her life. Meron is pursuing a degree as a medical laboratory technician from Yanet University College and will be the first in her family to graduate from university. She hopes to help bring healing to the ill through the skills and knowledge she acquires, trusting that a steady job will open a new path for her life and ministry with Young Life. A local staff person shares about Meron, “She is a strong woman in ministry. Meron is effective and fruitful as she is dedicated to developing new leaders and reaching more kids in our area of ministry.”
