Wat

My name is Wat and I live in a city called Gambella which is located on the border between Kenya and Ethiopia. My mother took the responsibility of taking care of me and my siblings after my dad was killed during the 2003 Gambella Genocide. It was during this time of great loss that my mother and my siblings and I decided to follow Christ.

I found comfort in music when my dad was murdered. I decided to use my singing gift to share hope in my community and bring people together. Preaching forgiveness through music has been my greatest goal. I know my community needs this after the genocide and the trauma that persists in its wake. It was through my singing opportunities that I met one of my Young Life leaders. I was so inspired by how they loved kids and spread hope to them. I decided to be part of the amazing team and currently serve in the Anuak ministry. I am so happy that I get to serve kids through singing.

Currently, I am enrolled at Gambella University studying business and economics. As a Developing Global Leader, my desire is to open up Gambella to the world for new opportunities to thrive. Studying business and economics will enable me to share knowledge on the importance of trade which will in turn help open my community to other communities. In life and in ministry, I hope to reach more kids and develop more leaders who will assist my community in healing from the genocide wounds.
