Tensay

My name is Tensay. My friends call me Tensu. I live in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, with my father and mother. I live with them because they need my help. I work for them in my free time, which sometimes causes me to miss class. My life has also become more difficult since starting college. I had to start working more to cover the costs of food and transportation, but I then had to leave my job because they wanted a full-time employee instead of part-time. I go to great lengths to get to school by walking half-way to school and then going by car the rest of the way to help cut down expenses.

My parents are Christians, and that is how I came to know Jesus. I also grew up going to church. When I was sixteen years old, Jesus became the Savior of my life. I was invited to Young Life club by a leader where I found encouragement and caught a glimpse of a vision for ministry. I started going to Young Life, and I am now a volunteer leader.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying business and economics at Dire Dawa University in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. I cannot continue my studies without this scholarship. My ideal job after graduation is either in business or computer science. I want to be an example and help other young people in my community and country. I have given all my heart and time for leadership and my education.
