My name is Lady Lizbet, but I go by Flaca. I am from the Amazon region of Ecuador, and of Quechwa Indigenous nationality. I am the second of five siblings; two are married, two in school and one still lives with my parents. My father is a retired military man, and my mother is a teacher in our small community. Although we have shared in many trials; my family has persevered and continues to support one another and make sacrifices.
My personal relationship with Jesus began four years ago; it is wonderful to see how Jesus not only touched my heart but also that of my family. I spent a lot of time during my adolescence in pain, suffering from depression and anxiety. I did everything I knew to overcome it, but nothing seemed to work. I started going out with a Christian friend from school who listened to me. Through every word of hers, I could sense that God was using her to tell me He loves me, that He was waiting for me. She introduced me to Young Life and I was very impressed to see how they love young people even without knowing them, God’s love. Now as a Young Life leader myself, I hope to be there as a listening and loving support for the teens in my community.
Because of the Developing Global Leaders Scholarship, I attend a local university and study communications. I am excited to see what doors God opens as I earn a college degree. I hope that the DGL program is a vehicle to grow my self-confidence and my leadership skills as I continue to serve in ministry. I desire to please the Lord and love Him above all.
