My name is Luis and I grew up with my parents and siblings in La Vega, Dominican Republic. My parents did the best that they could to provide for us; we are a united family. Our neighborhood was very rough with lots of negative influences, but my parents set a good example to stay away from drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, when I was six years old, I had an accident that required me to have brain surgery. It was very serious and I am grateful that I survived to live a normal life with very few noticeable consequences over time.
Six years ago, I met Jesus at summer camp where my older brother was working as a leader in the ministry of Young Life. I went with the mindset that I would have a lot of fun and make friends. However, I had an encounter with Jesus that changed my life forever and I decided that I would follow the Lord into His work. Now I am leading Young Life and using my skills to help other young people have their own encounter with Christ.
As a Developing Global Leader, I have decided to pursue a degree in education at Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. I enjoy specializing in information and sharing that knowledge with others. I believe that if I do the best that I can, I will be the first in my family to graduate from university and will be able to impact many lives as a teacher. Relating to people and sharing the good news of Christ is one of the best things in my life!
