Charles Marcel

Hello, I’m Charles and I go by Ramcel. I lived with the absence of my father during my childhood in a very chaotic neighborhood on the coast near Dakar, the capital of Senegal. My two sisters and I were educated by my mother where we learned to manage alone at home with no assistance or guidance from adults. It was difficult to hold myself accountable early on but by the grace of God, I lived to the best I could, experiencing many ups and downs along the way.

I was introduced to Jesus by my Young Life leader. It all started when I was fifteen, I came to know God by name and trust that nothing can distance me from His Presence. I became attached to Jesus and automatically let myself be carried away by my thirst for discovering Christ and began serving in Young Life.

With the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying civil engineering at Polytechnic Institute of Dakar and will be the first college graduate in my family. My current vision for the future is to be an engineer working in the construction industry and hope to contribute to the improvement of the infrastructure in my country. All the while, as a team leader, I want to continue to grow more leaders and be a role model in the lives of young people.
