My name is Joseph and I live with my mother and younger siblings in Moyamba, Sierra Leone. When I was a child, my father, already overcome by financial challenges, lost his life to heart failure. I grew up with my mother alone. None of my father's family helped my mother with all that she was now responsible for; it is not an easy thing in my community to be brought up by a woman single handedly. As the first child, my smaller siblings looked up to me to help our mama.
I grew up as a church goer in a Christian home, however it wasn’t until outreach camp where I met Jesus and fully surrendered my life to Him. Prior to that experience, I stood with “one foot in and one foot out” of my faith. I got connected to Young Life through the first sports camp they held in my area. Afterwards, I grew interested in becoming a leader and loved the activities of running club and pursuing teens in my community. I am proud to be a part of the founding members of Young Life in the Moyamba ministry area.
Now a Developing Global Leader, I am pursuing a degree in pharmacy at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. I plan to become a pharmacist and help my community by distributing resources to address the health issues they face. I want to give back to Young Life in my community by investing in leaders and introducing kids to Jesus. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
