Selam

Born and raised in a large family of nine, Selam desired a good life for herself and her family. Her family lived in a small village called Huruta in the central part of Ethiopia. Selam describes her childhood as one that had so many happy and challenging moments. One of the most challenging moments was having to walk many kilometers to be able to attend school. “As soon as I joined school, I had to walk for hours to get to school. The only school in my village was located very far from where we lived”, she recalls. Her greatest desire was for kids in her community to one day be able to access education and have a school built close to their village.

“I have been a Christian since I was a very young girl. My parents ensured that we attended church services and were an involved part of the congregation. Nonetheless, I began to understand more about Jesus and the Christian faith in my teen age years. One of my friends introduced me to a Young Life leader who helped me understand my walk with God much better." Selam is now able to share Jesus with kids in my community with a better understanding of God's Word and desires to help kids know the heart of God.

Now a Developing Global Leader, Selam dreams of bringing transformation to her community. She is currently enrolled at the Asela Rehoboth Medical College studying Science and Medicine. Selam dreams of being a clinical nurse and hopes to become an inspiration to kids and the teens in her community.
