Mihret

My name is Mita short for Mihret and I live with my mom and three siblings in the rural, farming town of Ziway, Ethiopia. We have struggled as a family to meet basic needs since the death of my father. I was very close to him as a child and was heartbroken by his passing.

For as long as I can remember, I have grown up in the house of God. God has been my Rock, especially as I navigated losing my dad. In the midst of facing many challenges, I have come to realize that apart from Jesus I will never experience the peace I long for. I have relied heavily on my church family and found great purpose in serving in the choir and the youth program. As a Young Life leader, I am grateful for my ministry with teens in my community, including teenage moms involved with Young Lives.

Now, with the help of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I will be the first in my family to attend a university. I am pursuing a degree in information technology at Addis Ababa Medical College. I hope to further develop my natural communication skills to be a valuable asset both in my career as well as my ministry. My priorities include working diligently in my studies, growing deeper in my faith, and being an encouraging support to the people God places in my life.
