Simon, who prefers to be called “Syoma,” lives in Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia, with his father and mother. His mother is a librarian and his father is a taxi driver. Due to his parents’ tumultuous relationship, he does not have fond memories of his childhood. However, because of his difficult childhood he is determined to be a good man of strong character. After serving in the army for two years, he decided to start following Jesus. He has been volunteering with Young Life by leading small groups and coaching soccer.

His love of sports and youth led him to study physical education as part of the Developing Global Leaders program. He believes he will be able to make a great impact on his country through his profession as a teacher and coach because it will provide many opportunities to invest in the lives’ of youth in his community.
