A friendly and faithful leader, Rini is the oldest child born to her loving parents, who live in southwest Bangladesh. Her father works as a day laborer at a dentist’s office and her mother is a housewife. Growing up with a younger brother with disabilities in a country where the disabled are often neglected created a deep passion in her heart to serve special needs children. Described by her area director as “friendly, spiritual, and industrious; she is a good counselor with great leadership potential and will definitely make a long-term impact on her community through her servant-leadership.”

Unable to continue her education without a scholarship, Rini is now working towards a degree in English at Khulna University as part of the Developing Global Leaders program. Her goal after graduation is to serve young people with special needs. Rini believes her English degree will help her communicate and advocate more effectively on behalf of the children she plans to serve. Concerning the goals she has for herself while a DGL students, she says, “First, I want to be a good leader. Then I want to build up some other good leaders in my area. I’ll mentor them. I want to show God’s love for non-Christian kids, that they would feel God’s love.” She will be the first in her family to graduate university.
